=0D=0A= =0D=0A= In 1988 the first MYC Round the Bay race was held. The idea was to have an early summer pursuit race much like the Quisset Round the Bay Race held at the end of the summer. It has attracted yachts from the southern New England area with some using the race as a tune up for the Bermuda race.=0D=0A= =0D=0A= The concept of a pursuit race is to apply the handicap before the start of the race which means that the slower yachts start first and the faster ones start later as per their handicap. Theoretically all the yachts should finish at the same time. With this system usually only 2 or 3 yachts are starting at the same time out of 30 or more yachts entered. This means less congestion and confusion at the start and marker roundings. However the level of competition remains high with the faster yachts trying to catch up with the early starters and the early ones trying to stay ahead. =0D=0A= =0D=0A= The MYC Round the Bay Race has a racing division which allows spinnakers to be used and the cruising division which only allows working sails.
