Event Title: Wed night August Race 3 - Illuminated Parade of Sail
Wednesday, August 12, 2009
|
Mattapoisett Yacht Club Parade of Sails
Wednesday August 12th, 2009
· We plan to do a Parade of Sails past the Town Wharf again this year.
· The plan is to assemble after the races that night, around 8:00 p.m., at the entrance to the main channel.
· On a horn signal, all vessels will follow the Race Committee boat "GOODSPEED" into the harbor.
· At approximately 8:15 p.m. we will start moving into the water-ski area. We will proceed past that area and then head northeast into the mooring field between the 4th and 5th mooring rows. We will then proceed toward the main wharf. The RC boat idles at 3 knots. This should take about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the main wharf. We will attempt to keep a speed that will allow us to stay in a line as a group.
· As the RC boat gets close to the wharf we will fire the cannon 3 times. On the third shot all vessels should light up their sails with spot lights, Christmas lights, even flash lights will work. The more the better.
· We will proceed past the main wharf and across the end of the wharf and in to the main channel. Last year we had perfect conditions and we did 2 loops. This year we will try again to make 2 passes, the RC boat will lead the way.
· Note: At night in the dark, lights on the sails and lights on deck can make it difficult for the helmsman to see. Please have spotters on the bow and watch out for slower boats.
· I know that some boats are faster than others and others maneuver better than others, so please give room to all vessels and pass with caution. I am leaving it up to the skippers to travel the safest route possible.
· This event is not just for racers; all members, friends, guests are invited. It is open to any boater. We had many power boats join in and would like more this year.
· If the weather is bad we will have to cancel.
· Lastly, be patient and have fun. As with all water activities, things may change quickly. Use your best judgment and navigate with care, keep a safe distance from the boat ahead and behind. Honor all marine laws. We will be monitoring Channel #71 as always.

Event Title: MYC Cruise
Thursday, August 13, 2009
|
|
MYC Cruise
The idea is a short cruise that stays close to home and has opportunities for boats or crew to join the fleet during the cruise. If we get good participation and club members like the idea, we can plan a longer cruise next year or maybe an end-of-the-year weekend
Thursday, August 13:
Rendezvous at Quissett in the afternoon (alternate is Hadley's' if weather or participants preference dictates)
Hike out to the Knob or grab a bus to town
Cocktails at 5:30 aboard Undine
Friday, August 14:
Tide turns fair through Woods Hole at 10:00am
Sail to Vineyard Haven - always lots to do and the bus will take you anywhere for $6.00 a day
Cocktails aboard _________ at 6:00
Saturday August 15
Leave MV by noon for a fair time to Tarpaulin Cove. (if the weather or wind is bad for Tarpaulin, we will head to Cuttyhunk)
Great place to swim, walk the beach, snorkel the rocks under the lighthouse.
Cocktail and dinner as the sun sets - maybe see deer coming down to the water. If we are lucky, the kids who summer in the house at Tarpaulin will come along side to sell fresh baked cookies!
Sunday August 16
Fair tide through Robinson's Hole until 1:00 for those heading back to Mattapoisett.
For more information and to sign-up for the cruise, contact Mike Dahill at

Event Title: 50/100 Mile race
Saturday, August 29, 2009
|
|
August 29th heralds the start of the 7th annual MYC 100-Mile Race. This is an overnight race that involves making two circuits around Buzzards Bay and portions of Vineyard Sound. We hope the turnout continues to increase this year, and our boats aren't becalmed (as happened the first year). It's a fun time racing through the night around Buzzards Bay! For the less hearty sailors, there is an option to sail only the first leg of the race (50 miles)
Entry and Sailing Instructions are located on the RACING page
