Spring Round the Bay      Back to Top
On
June 11th , the Mattapoisett Yacht Club hosts the first major regatta of the boating season on Buzzard’s Bay. More than 30 boats from area yacht clubs are set to participate in the Annual Spring Round the Bay. This is a pursuit race open to all yachts with a current PHRF certificate.

Wednesday Night Racing Series       Back to Top

The most popular club activity is the Wednesday night race series, which attracted 35 yachts last year. We hope to see at least that many racers again this year.

This year, the Wednesday night races are grouped into two series with six races in each series. Trophies are awarded for the top three yachts in each class for each race, each series, and for the yachts with the best cumulative total for the season. The yachts are divided into four classes based on their handicap.

After each race there is a casual gathering at the club to announce results, award trophies and recount race highlights. The final race of the Wednesday night series is followed by pizza for all crewmembers and their families.

You do not need to have a large yacht and a big crew to get in on the Wednesday night action. Anybody with a one design “dinghy” can compete in Class D, which races under the Portsmouth handicap system. This is a unique system that allows boats of different one-design classes, such as Sunfish, Lasers, Beetle Cats or Herreshoff 12’s to compete against one another. Small boat sailors will find this to be an excellent entry-level racing format, with lots of room to maneuver, lots of advice from experienced sailors and challenging competition, regardless of your level of expertise.

50/100 Mile race      Back to Top

August 27-28 heralds the start of the 9th annual MYC 50/100-Mile Race. This is an overnight race that involves making two circuits around Buzzards Bay and portions of Vineyard Sound. We hope the turnout continues to increase this year, and our boats aren’t becalmed (as happened the first year). It’s a fun time racing through the night around Buzzards Bay! For the less hearty sailors, there is an option to sail only ther first leg of the race (50 miles)

Fall Round the Bay       Back to Top
As a complement to our Spring Round the Bay and as part of the MYC, Quissett and Beverly Yacht Clubs Fall Series, we have instituted the Fall Round the Bay Race.

MYC Boats Join Other Clubs       Back to Top

In addition to races sponsored by the Mattapoisett Yacht Club, MYC boats participate in major local races, such as the Figawi, the Tower Race, the Buzzards Bay Regatta, the Quisset Round the Bay Race and the Beverly Yacht Club Hurricane Cup.
