In the late 1800's sailors in Mattapoisett got together to hold one-design racing in Mattapoisett Harbor and in 1901 the Mattapoisett Yacht Club was founded. Since that time the club has continued to offer local sailors the opportunity to sail and race in Mattapoisett. All of our history can be found in the history section of this website. But let’s focus on where we are now. A devastating fire in 2022 destroyed the Mattapoisett Boatyard and our yacht club building. Like all major disasters it takes time to rebuild both mentally and physically. 2025 will start a new beginning with a new clubhouse. We are excited to say the least. Mattapoisett Boatyard, the McLean and Kaiser families have been our lifeline and a new clubhouse would not be possible without them. Sailboat racing has been our major activity but I see a change coming. My goal as Commodore along with this year’s flag officers and Advisory Board will be to increase our social and cruising activities and add powerboat activities while still maintaining our one-design and PHRF sailboat races. Having a new clubhouse affords us the opportunity to blend all boaters together forming a home for all under one roof. I will continue to seek out new ideas to make our club better and enlist your help in doing so. As our yacht club history has shown there are ebbs and flows caused by wars, hurricanes and now a fire. Come join us, this will be a very special year. I look forward to the opportunity to lead us forward. Bob Warren Commodore [email protected] |
